Friends of UW Health is a non-profit organization lead by dedicated volunteers committed to raising money to enhance the experience of UW Health patients and families. They fund programs such as Wigs for Patients, which provides a free wig, products and styling to any patient losing their hair due to medical treatment. Each year they provide more than 450 free wigs, more than half of which are for breast cancer patients. Their annual grant program has funded initiatives such as acupuncture and non-pharmaceutical therapies, iPads for patient education and distraction in the chemotherapy center, and many other patient-centered services.
UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center is the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin. It unites more than 280 physicians and scientists who work together to translate discoveries from research labs into new treatments that benefit cancer patients. More than 30,000 people from around the world are seen annually for diagnosis, therapy, follow up care or consultations. From technical assistance to education programs, the Carbone Cancer Center provides a bridge between new research discoveries and their application in the community.
